This weekend marks the 2nd Annual Disaster Relief Trials or “DRT” in Eugene’s Alton Baker Park in downtown Eugene, Oregon, last year the event took place at Eugene’s South Eugene High School, this the event was moved to Alton Baker Park organizers say, according to their website.

With four different riding classes in this years event, the maximum number of riders has been capped to about 50 riders in the four racing classes. Organizers say, the having cargo bikes in the event of an emergency or natural disaster would allow bicycles with the ability to carry loads up to 200 pounds through the ruins of ground zero would allow supplies to be moved accordingly where motor vehicle access can not pass through in a safe matter, but cargo bikes and bicycle trailers make the job easier to get to despite the many obstacles riders could experience in the event of a natural disaster, they say.

Organizers say with this weekends event at Alton Baker Park, a disaster preparedness fair, a cargo bike race and information booths for the entire family should make it eventful for all to enjoy.
